Æthelred was king of Mercia from 675 until 704. He was the son of Anglo-Saxon King Penda of Mercia and came to the throne in c. 675, when his brother, Wulfhere of Mercia, died from an unknown illness.

Sweyn Forkbeard, Sven Tveskägg was King of Denmark from 986 to 1014, also King of the English and King of Norway. King Sweyn was the father of King Harald II of Denmark, King Cnut the Great and Queen Estrid Svendsdatter. In the mid 980s, Sweyn revolted against his father, King Harald Bluetooth, and seized the throne. Harald was driven into exile and died shortly afterwards in November 986 or 987.

Sir Hugh Newmarch 1336- c 1380, Lord of the Manor of Whatton, the monument was intentionally destroyed, particularly on the face, to hide his handsome negroid features. I have outlined his nose and lips because the outline is still prominent after the destruction and easy to determine with the naked eye what it would've been.
